INTRODUCTION AND HISTORICAL PERSPECTIVE ON NANOTECHNOLOGY

During the last years, the word ‘nano’ has been used as prefix to different disciplines (nanoelectronics, nanomedicine, nanophysics…), as indication of an infinitely small mathematical quantity. Nanotechnology enable the manipulation of matter through processes on the composition and the structure on a nanometric scale, thus taking advantage of properties that could not be obtained otherwise. It has a nearly unlimited sphere of application, to the extent that it can concern every main manufacturing sector.
What are the main areas of application? Why choose nanotechnology? What are the security issues? What are the new proprierties?
The TUTORIAL session provides a presentation of the basic concepts of nanotechnology and an introduction to the themes and the applications that will be addressed in detail during the event.
